Medicine Buddha Thangka

Medicine Buddha Thangka — Bhaisajyaguru, the Lapis-Blue Healer

Medicine Buddha (Sanskrit: Bhaisajyaguru; Tibetan: Sangye Menla) is the Buddha of healing, medicine, and the removal of suffering. Depicted in deep lapis-lazuli blue, he holds a myrobalan fruit in his right hand and a begging bowl of healing nectar in his left. Revered across Tibetan, Chinese, and Japanese Buddhist traditions, Medicine Buddha thangkas are placed on healing altars, in clinics, and in homes to invoke physical recovery, mental clarity, and the elimination of karmic illness.

How to Choose Your Medicine Buddha Thangka

• For healing or recovery practice → choose a Medicine Buddha thangka with the full assembly of eight medicine buddhas.
• For a clinic or home healing altar → choose a silk-brocade hand-framed thangka — the lapis-blue form brings calm and clarity to any space.
• For daily mantra recitation → choose a medium-format giclee printed thangka suited to a personal shrine.
• For collectors or gifting → choose a large-format giclee print with gold detail, hand framed in traditional silk brocade.
